Sometimes, our minds can make us feel really bad about ourselves. We might think every little mistake is a huge disaster and blame ourselves for everything. We may even make up stories in our heads, thinking there’s a problem when there isn’t one. To make ourselves feel better, we might try really hard to be super good, always improve, and impress everyone around us.

Why Do We Feel This Way?

It all starts with a tricky thing called a “schema.” This is like a blueprint in our heads from past experiences that makes us feel like we’re not good enough. The feeling of shame adds to this, making us think we’re flawed just for being ourselves or doing certain things.

Trying Too Hard Can Backfire:

To fight against this feeling of not being good enough, we often try too hard to be perfect. We want to be the best at everything and make everyone like us. But here’s the tricky part: the more we try to be perfect, the worse we feel inside.

Making Things Worse with Catastrophizing:

We also tend to make small problems into really big ones. This is called “catastrophizing.” It’s like making a mountain out of a molehill. This just makes our bad feelings even stronger, creating a never-ending loop.

How to Help Yourself Feel Better:

Understand and Accept Yourself: Start by paying attention to how you feel and accepting that it’s okay to have flaws. We all do!

Challenge Bad Thoughts: When you catch yourself thinking you’re not good enough, ask yourself if it’s really true. Challenge those thoughts and try to see things in a more positive light.

Be Kind to Yourself: Treat yourself like you would treat a good friend. Be nice to yourself, especially when things go wrong.

Talk to Someone: It’s okay to ask for help. Talking to someone you trust or a professional can make a big difference.

Stay in the Moment: Try to focus on the present instead of worrying about the past or the future. Simple activities like deep breathing can help calm your mind.

Feeling like you’re not good enough is tough, but you can change the story in your head. By being kind to yourself, challenging negative thoughts, and seeking support, you can break free from the cycle of feeling bad. Remember, you deserve to feel good about who you are!
